India Commemorates First Anniversary of Operation Sindoor at UN Mission; Kirti Vardhan Singh Reaffirms Firm Stand Against Terrorism
India marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor at India’s UN Mission under Kirti Vardhan Singh, reaffirming resolve against terrorism. The commemoration recalled the Pahalgam attack, strikes on terrorist centres in Pakistan, destruction of military targets, and ceasefire, while honoring the armed forces and global condemnation of terrorism.
Addressing the gathering, Kirti Vardhan Singh stated that India’s commitment to combating terrorism remains “as strong as ever”. The event paid tribute to the “bravery and professionalism of our armed forces, which is unparalleled”, while recalling the military operation launched in response to a deadly terror attack.
The commemoration referenced the incident in which 26 Indian tourists were killed in Pahalgam after Pakistan-based terrorists infiltrated Indian territory. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, targeting terrorist centres inside Pakistan.
The Resistance Front, a group affiliated with the UN-sanctioned Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. During the four-day operation, India also targeted Jaish-e-Mohammed along with other terror infrastructure linked to the groups involved.
The situation escalated into a broader military confrontation after Pakistan’s armed forces intervened in support of the terrorist organisations and launched attacks on India. India responded with force, repelling the attacks and striking multiple Pakistani air force and missile bases, inflicting significant damage.
Following the escalation, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations, Major General Kashif Abdullah, contacted his Indian counterpart, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, requesting a ceasefire after Pakistan’s strategic position weakened.
The United Nations Security Council later condemned the Pahalgam massacre, stating that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security. It further emphasised that terrorism is criminal and unjustifiable regardless of motivation, location, or perpetrators.
The commemoration at the UN Mission highlighted India’s sustained position on counterterrorism and the operational success of Operation Sindoor as a defining response to cross-border terrorism.
